What the search should plan for

A sitting commercial chief or division general manager at one of the Italian groups sits in the EUR 300,000 to 900,000 band, most of them in its lower half, with a bonus of 40 to 100 per cent of fixed at target. A Dutch yard director comes in lower on fixed pay, EUR 160,000 to 250,000, with pension and a company car. These are our reading of the anchors above, not a survey.

The package for a European general manager at a new yard in Türkiye

Fixed pay at or above the current seat, a bonus tied to the first deliveries and the order book, housing near the yard or in Istanbul, school fees, home flights, a car and driver, international health cover and tax equalisation. Rule of thumb: the all-in cost is the European package plus 35 to 50 per cent. Equity or a founder's share is the one thing the dealer-side sellers and the founders on the shortlist would weigh above salary.
